Galvanized Wire

Galvanization is the process of applying a protective zinc coating to steel , to prevent rusting. The most common method is hot-dip galvanization, in which parts are submerged in a bath of molten zinc. It forms a coating of corrosion-resistant zinc which prevents corrosive substances from reaching the more delicate part of the metal.

Zinc metal used in the galvanizing process provides an impervious barrier between the steel wire and corrosive elements in the atmosphere. It does not allow moisture and corrosive substances to attack the steel. The zinc coating will corrode before the steel, until the zinc is entirely consumed. Hot-dip galvanized steel resists corrosion in numerous environments extremely well. It is not uncommon for galvanized steel to last more than 70 years.
